Behind Plaid Photo

Justin Tsucalas is an award-winning photographer and owner of Plaid Photo, a Baltimore, MD based studio.

As a Baltimore native, he has spent over a decade photographing the people and scenes of his native city. From documenting the quirky life of a city dogwalker to capturing the culinary masterpieces of Baltimore's celebrated chefs, he enjoys shooting a wide-range of subjects.

Justin established himself as a lifestyle photographer by winning the 2016 PDN World In Focus grand prize for my "Drift Wood" photo essay and by being featured in Emerging Photographer Vol. 7, No. 1 for my "Post Collegiate" series.  Regardless of the subjects, his aim is to capture the feel and authenticity of a moment that allows viewers to see the scene for what it actually is whether it's beautifully intriguing or completely out of the box.

Current client  list includes: Wired, National Geographic Traveler, Food Network, Frank’s Redhot, Surface Magazine, Neon, McCormick’s & Co., , Baltimore Magazine, B-More Art Magazine, MICA, Visit Baltimore, Four Seasons, Consumer Reports, French’s, MIT, Penn Gazette, Hopkins Medical Magazine, (partial list).

In his spare time, Justin keeps busy with personal projects photographing scenes from his everyday life and developing personal portfolio books. At the moment, he is in the process of publishing a baby photo book "Look at this Messy Baby," showcasing the chaos and changing seasons of high-chair feeding.
